On the very first day of this year I discovered two games in development which sound extremely exciting. Want to share them with you and play as soon as they come out. Unfortunately I am not in a position to back any projects on Kickstarter so cannot get early access which actually sucks. Anyway, these sweet looking games are right here, right now.
Broken Age is coming from Double Fine Productions. Double Fine is the game studio created by Tim Schafer. Tim Schafer is the man behind titles as 'Day of the Tentacle', 'Full Throttle' and 'Grim Fandango'. If you do not know these titles you are not a real adventurer I am afraid and you should definitely look them up first before starting a new adventure. Tim Schafer put up a Kickstarter project on February 2012 with the promise of creating a real-deal adventure game. The genre was dying, no new titles which worth trying out were coming out and he felt the need of doing something about it (I believe). The project reached a huge amount with $3,336,371. Broken Age is the game Schafer promised and it is coming this month as it is announced.
This second title is coming from Two Guys who made Space Quest series in 80s and 90s, Mark Crowe and Scott Murphy. The great thing about Space Quest was that it was one of the first. It eventually became a legend for the genre after selling 100,000 at the first release. However after the last title 'Space Quest 6' in 1995, the series were cut. Today, the same guys want to awaken the legend and they already started a Kickstarter project which ended up collecting over $500,000 by 13th of June, 2012.
SpaceVenture is not exactly continuation of Space Quest but a successor that takes many elements from it. The hero in the game is Ace Hardway who is a space janitor walking around with his dog/toolbox Rooter so do not expect anything serious from this game. It will be a comedy with many pop culture references and jokes. It is going to be another point and click adventure with dragging feature as can be seen in the demo playthrough below. Well, there is not a release date yet as far as I know but should not be so long since the demo is out already.
